Leighton Park is celebrating an exceptional achievement in school sport, with eight students selected for the Berkshire County Hockey team and one for the England U16s!
This milestone reflects not only the students’ dedication and growing talent, but also the strength the Hockey programme at LP.
For many players, Hockey at Leighton Park is about much more than competition. Hermione (Year 11) shared what makes Girls’ Hockey so special for her: “All the girls love it, and it’s very inclusive. When the teams come together, you create a special bond with them, and it’s nice knowing all the older year groups as well.”
The sense of togetherness is matched by a culture of development and ambition. Head of Hockey, Matt Richards, expressed immense pride in this year’s impressive cohort of county-level players “Over the years we’ve had a couple more each time, but this year we’ve had a massive influx with our Year 11 and Year 10 girls. It just shows that we have lots of really keen hockey players and that over their time at the school they’ve developed their skills. I’ve always tried pushing students to go and play club hockey, and it helps build the hockey profile here at Leighton Park. Having a lot of those girls play county is now almost half of our first team, as well as three boys being county standard and one playing for England now which is a proud moment for me as well but it’s really good for the school and our students too”.
Congratulations to all the players involved: Sam (Year 9), Jacob (Year 8), Abi (Year 10), Abi (Year 11), Hermione (Year 11), George (Year 11), Chloe (Year 11) and Elisa (Year 11).
