The third annual Christmas Fair was a joy to behold as students flocked to the MMC after lessons on Wednesday 10th November to take part in fun games and activities, purchase gifts, enjoy the entertainment and sample an array of festive food!
The Sixth Form Social Enterprise Club meets in co-curricular time to plan and execute profitable fundraising initiatives that support local charities. They create several events over the course of the year including the sales of Valentine’s roses and Easter eggs but their most significant activity is the organisation of the hugely popular Christmas Fair.
Students throughout the school have formed small teams and committed to hosting a stall which they purchased for a £5 donation to the Social Enterprise group’s fundraising. Around 30 stallholders signed up, including two stalls run by staff members and one by a loyal external supplier who has been supporting the event since its inauguration. The Social Enterprise Club ran a delicious waffle stall in conjunction with the Food Tech team and the Parent & Staff Community (PSC) kindly provided a scrumptious line in hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Jessy (Upper Sixth) did an amazing job curating dancers, actors and musicians to perform throughout the event across Main Hall and the Upper Foyer offering entertainment alongside the shopping and activities.
Sarah Owen, Business teacher and Social Enterprise group leader, commented: “It is fantastic collaboration for the stall holders as they plan ahead, they make their stuff and then on the day they have to do customer service and manage the money. Social Enterprise do everything else to organise the event; they’re all getting some great experience!”
