Our keen Hockey players started Long Leave off with a Sports Tour to the ‘Emerald Isle”! Between 17th and 20th October they enjoyed an adventures exploring Dublin, playing Hockey in Skerries and bonding over shared experiences.
Leaving immediately after school on Friday 17th October the team flew from Heathrow and arrived in time for a good night’s sleep followed by a decent full Irish breakfast!
Following some shopping and exploration time in Dublin city centre on the morning of Saturday 18th October, the group jumped on the train to Skerries for some matchplay against local team, Skerries Hockey Club. With goals from Zara (2), Mia and Daisy, the team achieved an impressive 4-0 win and Mia was named player of the game. Matt Richards reports “What a day! Girls getting on super well as a group. Storming 4-0 win for LP!”
As Sunday dawned grey and wet, the girls returned to Skerries for a pitch training skills session plus some less familiar sporting drills as they discovered the art of camogie (hurling) with the girls from Skerries.
Another wet start to the day on Monday 20th October but the girls began happily with a game at 10.00am at Skerries CC which saw us go ahead 1-0 thanks to a short corner by Eva (Lower Sixth). Early in the second half we conceded two quick goals well taken by Skerries CC. The LP team rallied towards the end of the game to grab a goal back thanks to Zara, concluding with 2-2 as the final result. Elisa (Year 11) was named Player of the Match. The group enjoyed a quick lunch at the clubhouse and boarded the coach to make their way to the airport.
