Our partnerships team hosted eight primary schools from the local area on our astro to take part in the KS2 Festival of Sport – Football Tournament.
Ridgeway, Southcote, Thameside, Geoffrey Field, Christ the King, Redlands, Alfred Sutton and Katesgrove Primary Schools all competed against each other.
Our enthusiastic sports prefects were refereeing and coaching, making sure through their individual coaching that each team had a fantastic time. This was a great opportunity for visiting pupils to improve on and learn new skills, whilst engaging with the older students.
After just an hour and a half of exciting back-to-back games, Geoffrey Field Junior School were proclaimed the winners. Everyone then came together for some well-deserved hot chocolate and hot dogs, which went down a treat!
Megan, one of the teachers from Alfred Sutton Primary School, reflected: “The event has been fantastic! The kids are really excited and it’s been really well organised. The coaches clearly know their stuff and how to work with children. Each team has really gotten to know them and work alongside each other, creating a really good bond. The kids are just buzzing.”
Ethan (Year 5) from Christ the King Primary School responded: “There’s some quality players who have been playing very well and it’s a good challenge to go against them. But our coach has a great knowledge of football and has been teaching us new strategies.”
Felix (Year 5) from Alfred Sutton Primary School also enthused: “The event is really good and everyone is getting involved. The coaches are nice, the rotations are good and I like the system of the tournament.”
Justin, a support worker from Katesgrove Primary School, concluded: “The kids seem very excited. I think it’s a massive learning curve for them because this is a bunch of players that don’t play together on the weekend. They play for clubs outside of school, so they’re just getting to understand each other on the pitch for the first time today. It’s a good learning curve for them.”
