IB Music Showcase | News | Leighton Park | Private school in Berkshire

Taylor and Romeo, two of our talented IB Music students, also showcased their latest project, a work collaboratively designed with Drama students.

At Higher Level, IB Music students embrace the experience of composing and performing an original soundtrack to a stage show extract, taking complete responsibility for organising the event including booking the venue and liaising with the Tech Crew. The performance was undertaken as Taylor and Romeo’s mock for the Contemporary Music Maker unit of the IB and the final piece will be worth 20% of their grade in this subject.

Rosemary Scales, Director of Music and IB Music teacher, reflected: “IB Music is a really exciting course because there is no exam and everything is based on an online journal. It’s scientific, it’s experimentation, it’s performing, it’s creating. They have to collaborate with all different types of music, including globally. I would definitely recommend it; it’s very different to A Level Music: more scientific and reflective; more like university.”

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme offers a complete Sixth Form education enabling participants to explore six subject choices and discover their strengths in Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), learn about Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and undertake an Extended Essay (EE) of up to 4,000 on their choice of topic. Our enthusiastic Lower Sixth IB cohort delivered an inspiring introduction to this globally renowned academic qualification during Collects on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th January, giving all members of the Leighton Park community the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the flexibility of the programme.

Leighton Park has recently been celebrated as a Top 10 Small Cohort UK IB School based on the school’s summer 2025 results.
