It was a double celebration for two teams when our cross-country runners slipped and sloshed their way around the muddy ISA West London Regional Finals course on Friday 13th February achieving several top 10 places across multiple categories.
The girls’ in the Year 7 race who achieved 5th, 6th and 7th places and the boys’ in the Year 10 & 11 race who came 7th, 8th and 9th, were declared the winning teams for the U12 Girls and the U16 boys respectively. Individually, Isla (Year 10) came 3rd in the Year 10 and 11 girls’ race with Rafe (Year 8) 10th in the Year 8 and 9 boys’ competition.
Director of Sport, Simon Bradbury commented: “I think it’s a really important discipline to be able to run because for a lot of team sports, if you want to be a centre mid fielder in football, a scrum half in rugby, a centre in Netball, for example, if you can’t run and sustain that running for a good period of time then you are going to struggle to play those positions. It’s one of those events where students might be a bit apprehensive and a little bit nervous at first, but once they come through the finish line they actually say ‘I really enjoyed that!’”
