Our latest London Academy of Musical and Drama Arts (LAMDA) results have come in and the students have done it again!
Leighton Park’s LAMDA results have been consistently high, with 82 % of our students achieving Distinctions and the remaining students achieving Merits in the last two years. These results represent achievements in Grade 4 for Elouisa (Year 10) and Selin (Year 8), for Annabel (Year 11) in Grade 5 and for Leo (Lower Sixth) in Grade 8. “Bravo, on all sorts of levels.” enthused Luke Walters, Head.
Annabel was delighted with her result reflecting: “I was always interested in Drama and I just decided to start LAMDA lessons because I wanted to do something creative and it was a really good opportunity to develop my acting skills. Working with Jak (Forde-Lane) is great; he’s a really good teacher. I didn’t really know what to expect going into the exam but everyone was super supportive and really helpful. We had time to go through our scripts beforehand and the examiner was really nice; she made it so it wasn’t that stressful.”
Head of Drama, Jessica Wittert van Hoogland, commented: “These are really fantastic results and we are very proud of these students’ hard work. We are particularly proud of Leo for achieving such a high score of 92 % at Grade 8.”
Jessica continued: “Achieving a Distinction at Grade 8 in LAMDA is an impressive achievement – it is a prestigious award. It requires years of dedication to this craft and demonstrates considerable skill. At Grade 8, students must display a great breadth of versatility in their performance skills, whilst they must also have a deep appreciation of the context of the pieces that they study and perform. They must be able to formally discuss and explore the artistic intentions of the work, the subtext of the extracts, as well as the process they undertook to realise and develop their characterisation and performance. During the exam not only do they perform but they are interviewed by the examiner. A Distinction at Grade 8 awards the student with 30 UCAS points.”
