Another inspiring lunchtime concert took place today with six acts offering the community a series of
pleasantly relaxing performances before the last two lessons of the week. The Piano Trio kicked off the concert with ‘Miniatures 1. Minuet’ by Frank Bridge, before pieces on piano, strings and voice plus a unique performance involving both guitar and tech.
Students from across the school regularly participate in musical performances during the lunchtime break giving staff and pupils an aural treat to follow their delicious Oakview restaurant meal. The lunchtime concerts provide a space for students to develop confidence and showcase their musical progress in a more relaxed environment than one of our more formal evening concert settings.
The plethora of concerts that takes place across the year includes popular highlights such as the Christmas Concert, the Movies & Musicals Concert, Music for a Summer’s Evening, the Creative Communications Showcase and even overseas concerts on our international music tours. This year we are off to Spain! There are opportunities for soloists, small and large and ensembles and both original compositions and rehearsed performances of existing pieces.
Our musicians receive fantastic support from our talented team who have been shortlisted for Music Department of the Year for the second year running. Leighton Park is the only school in Europe to partner with Yamaha as a Music Education Partner which ensures our students have access to world class instruments, cutting edge musical technology and workshops with professional Yamaha musicians. Our Live Lounge is fitted with microphones from Sontronics with whom we nurture a mutually beneficial partnership and we are also a Steinberg Certified Training Centre. Over 60% of our students learn at least one instrument with our 27 peripatetic music teachers and each year several of our Upper Sixth pursue further education courses in Music and Music Technology. Our Sound for Soul initiatives promotes music as a source of wellbeing for all and encourages everyone to join in and have a go!
