National Youth Choir Success!

Congratulations to Henry (Lower Sixth) for his success in the National Youth Choir audition this term!

Henry’s reaction to the news was entirely enthusiastic: “I simply felt a feeling of immense joy and pride and I also thought that I had made a crucial step towards possible goals for myself in the future. I am most looking forward to singing at a high standard with other passionate musicians and making friends and connections with others.”

Rosemary Scales, Director of Music and Media, is delighted to have such a talented vocalist in the school saying: “The National Youth Choir is the UK’s top youth choir. This is a phenomenal achievement and Henry is very excited! Hopefully he will be singing at the BBC Proms next summer, along with other exciting opportunities in the months preceding that. Well done Henry!”

The National Youth Choir offers performance opportunities to singers between the ages of 9 and 25 with a focus on high-level choral music, fostering a national singing community through workshops and holiday courses around the UK and encouraging career development in the musical sphere. Henry follows Old Leightonian, Laura Phillips (Class of 2024), into the NYC and the school is hosting the choir for their Easter camp next year.

Henry joined Leighton Park’s Sixth Form in September and, in addition to his three A Levels in Music, English and History, has immediately thrown himself into the extensive co-curricular life of the school. Henry will be performing in the role of the Baker in the upcoming Senior Production of ‘Into the Woods’ from 10^th-13^th February 2026, a significant part which will showcase his wonderful voice as well as his acting prowess.
