The Staff vs Students annual Hockey match made its anticipated return on Monday 23rd March!
Students, staff and parents gathered on our Astro to cheer on and watch the thrilling game play out. Energy was running high to see if the staff would continue their six-year winning streak, or if the students would secure their first win.
It was a very strong first half from both sides with a lot of back-and-forth control, until the students seized an opportunity and scored a goal! Although the students kept their great momentum, the staff managed to score three times in the second half and defended against a penalty. The final score was 3-1 to the staff, extending their unbeaten run to now seven years! None the less, all who participated had an excellent time participating and it was a wonderful final game at Leighton Park for some of the students.
Head of Hockey and Chemistry Teacher, Matt Richards, commented on the game: “To start we were quite nervous, as we hadn’t played a lot of hockey together and we knew the student team was a very good outfit. Having coached them for years across multiple different year groups, they even had some county players and an England player in there. The student side looked the strongest they have for years. They deservedly went one up in that first half, but the second half the staff used their experience and scored three good team goals and held onto the win. Huge credit to the students, they played extremely well and they showed everything they’ve learnt over the years. It was just so great to see so many quality hockey players on the student side!”
