The Masked Singer Returns!

On Thursday 27th November our very own edition of the Masked Singer made a highly anticipated return! A handful of disguised staff took to the stage to sing their hearts out in a colourful bunch of costumes, belting out their favourite songs for the enthusiastic crowds.

This year saw more than solo acts, with two bands and a duet added into the mix. This made guessing even more exciting and mysterious for students! The most popular theory was ‘The Gingerbread Gang’ were the House Clerks, as Borna (Year 7) pointed out “Lauren could’ve made those crazy dance moves and Ellie’s voice was very obvious!”. Not far behind that was a “DofE Duo” was behind Winnie the Pooh & Tigger. Another leading theory was Woody was particularly tall, meaning it must be Maths teacher Mark Budge.

Everyone kept on guessing right up until it was time for the reveals at the end of the day. All was answered, with some surprises as to who was who.

In order of appearance, this year’s performers were:

  • Lucy Chapman (Fryer Boarding Experience Manager), Sharon Deller (Reckitt Boarding Experience Manager), Stacey McFadyen (Pastoral Support Manager and Futures Coordinator), Sheryl Summers (School Nurse), Jen Perrens (School Paramedic) as Disney Characters singing ‘Spice Up Your Life’
  • Mark Budge (Maths Teacher) as Woody from Toy Story singing ‘American Pie’
  • Duncan Laurie-Pile (Maths Teacher) and Richard Duckett (Politics Teacher) as Winnie the Pooh and Tigger singing ‘Sunny Afternoon’
  • House Clerks Ellie Smales, Lauren Brandwood, Debbie Ince and Imogen Cook as The Gingerbread Gang singing ‘All Star’
  • Ruth Taffe (English Teacher) as Stitch singing ‘Valerie’
  • Sally Saunders (Assistant Head: Pupil Personal Development and Head of Year 9, Careers and PSHE) as Mike Wazowski singing ‘I Want It That Way’
  • Paul Bean (PE and Games Teacher and Weekend Activities Coordinator) as Alex the Lion singing ‘Angel’

After another great year of this event, Director of Music & Media, Rosemary Scales reflected: “It has been incredibly successful, and it’s been great to see teachers and students alike all enjoy it! It’s so wonderful to see music again bring the community together through Sound for Soul. I can’t wait till next year!”

This event is part of our Sound for Soul Wellbeing Initiative, promoting the positive impact music has on our mental health and wellbeing. And the Masker Singer is a fun way to bring our community together with a spectacular show, that highlights music’s ability connect us all and spread joy.
