On Tuesday 9th December, a home match of Hockey was played on our astro against Shiplake College. This was our Senior’s last fixture of the season, as well as our Year 13s last game with Leighton Park. It was an emotional game for all, with a large crowd coming along to support which added further to the already excited atmosphere around the match!
Pushback was at 4:40pm, with some light rain making an appearance the moment the whistle blew. It was an intense game over the hour, but the final result of 3-0 saw Leighton Park take the victory with two goals from Abi (Year 10) and one from Zara (Year 13)!
Matt Richards, Head of Hockey, commented “We drew with Shiplake earlier in the league season so there were a few nerves going into tonight. But the girls went in with great energy and determination whilst following the game plan perfectly. They eased into the game, and with the steady flow of goals, they played with control and confidence. A very sound team performance to end the season, especially for a lot of the leavers in Year 13 as some have been with us for 5 or 7 years. I know the girls have loved the hockey season and more importantly have enjoyed being around each other!”
Cali (Year 13), the team’s captain, reflected: “I found the match tonight so fun! We really showcased what sport at LP is all about. Working together, having fun and putting in 100% effort! It was so lovely that so many people came to support, and for me especially it was the best way to end my LP hockey career with a 3-0 win. The sense of community we have formed is hard to walk away from and I’m going to miss it!”
Eva (Year 12), who will be captain next year, spoke about how this season has been: “It’s been an incredible season! We’ve performed very well and held our own against some competitive sides, which I think is a testament to how well we work together and how strong Hockey at LP is now. Some of us have been playing together for 7 years, so it was a really nice way to end the season”
