The start of study leave is a momentous date for our Year 11s marked by the scribbling of many autograghs across the blank canvas of crisp white school shirts!
The entire cohort gathered in Peckover Hall for Period 6 on Thursday 7th May to celebrate the end to their daily school routine for the past five years. With public examinations looming and the prospect of the Sixth Form on the other side of a long, hot summer holiday the anticipation in the atmosphere was almost tangible. Students grabbed sharpies, coloured feltips and ballpoint pens to record happy memories, draw pictures and swap signatures with their friends as Peckover turned into a frenzied mass of moving bodies eager to ensure their names were permanently etched on each other’s school shirts.
Merion Taynton, Head of Year 11, commented: “It’s quite amazing to think that I’ve had this year group since they arrived in Year 7! It’s been quite the journey; it’s been a huge privilege to see their growth and to see the benefits of having that stability and continuity. They’ve grown, physically of course, but also here they are now going on to the next stage of their journey. I am immensely proud of who they’ve become It’s the end of an era for them, and for me. I’m quite emotional even though I’m pretending I’m not! I just wish them so much luck and I know that they will be extraordinary in whatever they do next, because they already are.”
