Community Partnerships

Leighton Park has a Community Partnership with Whitley Community Development Association (WCDA), working closely with this excellent organisation to support families in our local area.

Our work with Whitley Community Development Association

Whitely cda

The Let’s Cook Together initiative provided weekly recipes via video and recipe cards for students at local primary and prep schools, as well as Whitley Community Development Association (WCDA). During the ten week programme, our Year 10 CAS students also coordinated supplies of ingredients and equipment for 26 families at WCDA to enable more families to take part.

Students from our Eco Schools Group at Leighton Park delivered plants to Whitley residents recovering from illness and the PSC (our PTA equivalent) co-ordinated and delivered weekly supplies of food, toiletries, stationery and toys through our LP Donate programme to the WCDA hub. At Christmas the PSC even arranged for bespoke Christmas boxes to be created for the 26 Whitley families in need with individual festive gifts for each family member and some seasonal treats.

Trisha Bennett, Community Development Coordinator for Whitley CDA, commented,

“Working with LP has been amazing. They have wrapped their arms around us and found a range of creative ways to support our work with the Whitley community.”

Feeding communities with Thomas Franks

Leighton Park has partnered with our catering company, Thomas Franks Ltd on a project called Feeding Communities. Meals are provided free to struggling local families through the generosity of Thomas Franks and their clients, like Leighton Park, who want to make a difference. And even better, the initiative has spread across the globe with many of Thomas Franks international clients also taking part.

Leighton Park has been delighted to get involved with Feeding Communities this term to help families at Ridgeway Primary, a school very nearby with a high proportion of families in need, with 100 frozen meals per week and 230 snacks for their pupils.

“One of the exciting things about working with Thomas Franks is that they share our values.” reflected Tash, “When you look at the work they are doing to support and promote access to nutritious food, it is nothing short of inspiring. At Leighton Park we are working closely with Alessandro  – our talented Head Chef on this campaign. Alessandro was immediately on board with the aims of this project and getting meals to families in need via our schools network. This is the power of partnership working: it can be impactful and immediate from just one conversation.”
