On Wednesday 26th March, Antigoni in Lower Sixth participated in the prestigious ISA Public Speaking Finals held at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Having been selected form a field of over one hundred entrants, Antigoni acquitted herself superbly, with the judges commenting on her excellent audience engagement, her detailed research and her witty analogy – she was arguing that we should approach challenges in the same way as people who love spicy food approach a bowl of chilli: not with the goal in mind, but with a determination to enjoy the burn!
Head of English, Matt Taylor, commends Antigoni’s achievement, saying “The event brings together the finest young speakers from across the country to showcase their eloquence, confidence, and passion for public speaking, and while on this occasion Antigoni did not place first or second (the only two places awarded), she should be very proud of having been selected in the first place and for having performed so incredibly well.”
Antigoni concludes “Cambridge is such a beautiful and vibrant city! I loved seeing the blend of nature and architecture and wished we had more time to look around. The competition in the finals was definitely fierce and speeches were very varied in topic. The challenge of the competition was a matter of balancing intriguing content with impactful delivery – keeping it at the right level of spice (pun intended). I am very grateful to have had this opportunity to show my love for public speaking in such a treasured academic space such as this. Also, massive thank you to Matt for all the help and guidance he has supported me with.”
