A Fryer Merry Christmas

As the festive season approaches, the Fryers have been enjoying the lead up to Christmas through a vast array of celebrations and activities that have brought the community together. From trips to London to Christmas Jumper Days, the last month has been full of festive fun.

The season’s festivities kicked off on 18th November with our Fryer Christmas Tutor Challenge “with the aim for tutor groups to bond and be creative in creating something together, as well as get in the festive mood of course!” explains Becky Edwards, Director of Fryer.  You can read more about it here.

Shortly before we reached December, Year 8s headed to London’s West End to experience the magic of watching Back to the Future on stage. The trip was the perfect way to ignite the holiday excitement, providing plenty of inspiration for their creative endeavours back at school and seeing the capital’s Christmas lights.

Thursday 5th December combined LP’s Christmas Jumper Day and the Fryer Christmas Party! Year 7 and 8s enjoyed a fun filled evening complete with Karaoke, Music, Just Dance, a Photobooth, Tutor Games and Popcorn – as well as the usual fussball/pool/table tennis in the Games room – all before the parents joined for mince pies and carols! A great way to get the Fryer community all together. And for the rest of term, the students all enjoyed sporting their festive knitwear alongside their regular Fryer uniform.

On Monday 9th December, the Fryers turned their festive energy toward giving back, hosting a Christmas Extravaganza event, as Leighton Park’s Year 8 students welcomed clients from Age UK Reading. The event, designed and hosted by the students with the support of Becky Edwards, Director of Fryer, and Tash Coccia, Senior Assistant Head: Partnerships, marked the first in-person intergenerational gathering since the pandemic. Guests were treated to a delightful variety show featuring music, dance, comedy and a lively game of bingo. The students also served food and engaged in friendly conversations with their guests. The smiles and laughter shared during the event captured the true essence of the season, bringing joy to others.

Year 7 wrapped up their Christmas celebrations with a trip to Selly Manor on Thursday 12th December, immersing themselves in the history of Bournville and the Cadbury story, as the term drew to a close.

From carols to crafts, and parties to performances, the students embodied the joy of Christmas, setting the tone for a merry and meaningful festive season.
