The Small Ensembles Concert is the perfect opportunity for students to showcase the talents of their groups. There are no barriers to entry in joining a small ensemble, everyone from novice players to Grade 8 musicians are welcomed into the musical community and encouraged to join an ensemble. Alongside their instrumental lessons, the ensembles provide an excellent opportunity to practice different pieces of music, to bond as a group and to meet different students from across the School.
The concert on Wednesday 15th November is a stalwart of the musical calendar and is a popular one with both performers and audiences. This year the programme included covers of many well-known popular artists such as Jamiroquai, Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix and Oasis in addition to some classical pieces by composers like Handel and Shostakovitch.
Director of Music and Media, Rosemary Scales, commented, “ it’s quite an eclectic mix of music! What is very exciting is that the vast majority of this programme has been organised, rehearsed, prepared and devised by the students alone.”
