On Tuesday 20th June, Deputy Head Academic, Alex Wallace and Head of Teaching and Learning, Jenny Powlesland were delighted to welcome parents and students to Peckover Hall for the school’s first Careers Speed Networking event.
Following an ice breaker activity which made the room buzz, our Academic Scholars had the invaluable opportunity to quiz experts from a range of fields and ask about their journeys to the professions they hold today.
In the hot seat, students spoke to chemical engineers, directors, talent acquisition partners, solicitors, secretaries, consultants and more!
“We were incredibly grateful to be able to welcome such brilliant parents to the Park.” commented Alex. “They were full of passion and enthusiasm for their jobs, and this has clearly inspired the next generation. We do hope this will be the first event of many. I know we have wonderfully talented students, and the parents were just as great!”
International Baccalaureate student, Jaia in the Lower Sixth, reflected “The networking event was an absolutely fantastic experience for me to engage with parents from various professions, and I found it to be an invaluable resource in gaining insights into potential career paths.”
“I received advice about how to excel in my intended career. I am hoping to study Law at university and pursue a career as a corporate lawyer. It was incredibly fascinating to speak to two lawyers and discuss their professional journey and seek advice on how to get into the legal world.”
“I have used the advice provided by the lawyers I spoke to and got into contact with several legal firms to seek internship opportunities over the summer. I sincerely hope that school will consider hosting this event again next year, as I believe future students would also immensely benefit from this kind of opportunity.”
