Celebrated Children’s Author, Cressida Cowell at LP!

We were delighted to welcome internationally bestselling author-illustrator and 2019-22 Children’s Laureate Cressida Cowell MBE, on Wednesday 10th May for a talk to almost 400 pupils. The students in Years 4 to 7, were thrilled to meet the creator of the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ and ‘The Wizards of Once’ series and hear about Cressida’s new book, ‘Which Way to Anywhere’.

Cressida’s eclectic talk included top tips on becoming an author or illustrator, behind-the-scenes details about how the books became films, and where her inspiration comes from.  The pupils were able to ask questions and to discover more about her writing and her ideas.

The attending schools which included Eton End Prep, Hemdean House, St Edward’s Prep, St Piran’s Prep, Southcote Primary, Whiteknights Primary and Farley Hill Primary as well as our own Fryers from Year 7, had a chance to meet the author in person and get a copy of one of Cressida’s books signed. Two journalists from the school’s Newspaper Club also had the opportunity to interview Cressida for their paper, The Acorn, and we are looking forward to seeing their article in the next edition.

Everyone who came seemed to really enjoy their experience and Cressida was extremely busy signing books at the end of the event!

“My favourite part of Meet the Author was how Cressida Cowell inspired me to write a book!” enthused Olivia (Farley Hill Primary). Marina from Hemdean House, was equally delighted, saying “It was great. I don’t think the day could get better!”. Marina’s teacher, Helen Tillingworth, felt the talk was ‘Excellent” with “Lots of ideas”. Whilst Year 5 teacher, Emma Roberts from Eton End, commented, “I am a librarian and it is a great opportunity for our class to meet an author and be inspired to be great readers. They have had a special experience.” “Cressida was so inspiring.” Reflected Eton End pupil, Georgina, echoed by Levi from St Edward’s Prep “It was amazing and I was inspired!”. Innaaya from Southcote Primary School summed it up for children and adults alike, saying “I actually met a famous author and saw her in the flesh! She is so cool!”
