Club Charter for Oakleaf Interact

As we all begin to wind down for the festive period, on Friday 9th December, the School took the opportunity to reflect on the Outreach and Partnership work that has been achieved this year.

In Collect, we were delighted to be joined by the Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh as President, Paul Cunningham, presented the Oakleaf Interact Club with their club charter.

Paul recalled his first meeting with Bursar, Keith Eldridge, many moons ago and spoke with fondness on the work that Rotary and Leighton Park have achieved together over the years; from an annual Art and Charity Fair to recently launching an initiative to reduce food poverty.

Oakleaf Interact President, Antigoni in Year 10, commented “The Oakleaf Interact Club is our way to encourage students here to work together to make the world a better and safer place for all by contributing to the right causes. Currently, the club has decided to raise money for local charity, Daisy’s Dream, and international charity, Mercy Ships, and we already have plans underway.”

Antigoni continued, “Having been part of Rotary work for over two years now, I know from experience that the Interact Club will be able to prosper with its work in such a welcoming community and be able to help more and more people each year that it’s running – treating others how any one of us would want to be treated and attended to if we were struggling in these tough times.”

Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland take action through community and international service, learning leadership skills and participating in professional development. Before certification, Interact Clubs must adopt the Standard Rotary Club Constitution and Bylaws.

To conclude, Head, Matthew Judd, poignantly said “We are in an incredible bubble of privilege… we have a responsibility to help those that are in some way less fortunate than ourselves. I look to you to demonstrate those change maker characteristics in your life.”
