Dancing to Steve Reich’s Triple Quartet dancers demonstrated a phenomenal strength and physicality. In contrast to this, the hip hop choreographer, Marion Motin (choreographer for Christine and the Queens and Dua Lipa), presented ‘Rouge’, a performance full of energy and drive. Isla (Year 7) commented, “I loved the costumes. Rouge was my favourite as they had a live electric guitar being played and the lighting was excellent.” While Udeysha (Year 7) exclaimed, “The trip was truly special as I had never seen a professional dance group perform.”
It was wonderful to experience the world premiere of this piece and to see Marion Motin herself on stage. To complete the triple bill the dancers transformed themselves again for Hofesh Shechter’s ‘In Your Rooms.’ This intense movement with chimp and lizard like actions were completely captivating. The raw and furious dynamics were so powerful. Students were highly engaged throughout and we are looking forward to the Rambert masterclass in June.
“They are just bodies, they’re beyond that. They create stories, they create a journey and they create emotions. The artist is able to make you feel something. I call them this because to me, they create magic.’ Benoit Swan Pouffer Artistic Director Rambert
