The UK Maths Trust, a charitable organisation dedicated to inspiring and nurturing young people’s interest in Maths, has launch a new competition and Leighton Park girls are some of the first to take part! The inaugural competition is an exclusive opportunity for girls and will sit alongside the long-standing Maths Olympiad for Girls which in 2024 had almost 5,000 entries. As competitors have to choose between the 90 minute Maths Competition or the 2.5 hour Maths Olympiad , Leni Samuels, Head of Maths, commented, “The Maths department are delighted to be enrolling our girls in the UKMT Mathematical Competition for Girls. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their enthusiasm for problem-solving and to challenge them in a national competition. Taking part also highlights the importance of encouraging more young women into STEAM subjects, showing them that their curiosity and talent in Maths can open exciting doors for the future.”
Leighton Park won the ISA’s 2024-25 Future Readiness Award in part for an innovative academic curriculum and an outstanding co-curricular offering, both of which develop skills essential for life beyond school.
Leni continued, “Maths competitions encourage students to think creatively, develop resilience, and apply their mathematical knowledge in new and unfamiliar contexts. They also give students a sense of belonging to a wider mathematical community, allowing them to see that their passion for Maths is shared by others across the country.”
