We were delighted to declare the Grove Sixth Form Centre and whole School Library officially open on Friday 18th October 2024! The Vice Chancellor of University of Reading, Professor Robert Van de Noort, unveiled the plaque in the Austin Lecture Theatre with Head, Matthew Judd and Chair of Governors, Eme Dean-Lewis at a special event held on a sunny autumnal afternoon.
An invited gathering of esteemed guests enjoyed a welcome reception on the sunlit terrace and listened to members of the Senior Choir and the Orchestra playing a piece especially commissioned for the occasion by composer Toria Burrell-Hrencecin. ‘The Sacred Place’. Speeches were given by Robert, Matthew and Eme, a new portrait by our very own filmmaker, James Hargreaves, took pride of place in the Elizabeth Fry room and our Sixth Formers gave tours of the new building for anyone keen to explore.
Grove Sixth Form Centre and whole School Library has been a two-year renovation project of Grove boarding house, creating modern learning facilities and pleasant social spaces within a Victorian building. The boarding house was originally designed by architect, Alfred Waterhouse, who also designed the Natural History Museum. The new layout includes the double-height whole School Library, classrooms for Sixth Form subjects such as Economics, Business, Politics and Psychology, a Sixth Form Common Room, the Austin Lecture Theatre, silent study room, a student kitchen and a landscaped garden.
