Hands-On Helping with Social Enterprise

This year, Social Enterprise students were thrilled to present a generous donation of £700 to Salt Shaker, a charity dedicated to creating Christmas hampers for disadvantaged families in the Berkshire area. The charity works in partnership with The Cowshed, an organisation that identifies families in need and ensures these thoughtfully prepared hampers are delivered in time for the festive season.

Understanding the importance of contributing more than just funds, the students were eager to play an active role in supporting Salt Shaker’s efforts. On Sunday, 24th November, a group of 20 Social Enterprise students, joined by several boarders, enthusiastically headed to the Binfield Community Centre for an afternoon of hands-on volunteering. Armed with Christmas hats, holiday tunes, and plenty of festive spirit, the students spent the day packing hampers with care and precision. To top off the holiday atmosphere, they indulged in mince pies, ensuring a balance of hard work and cheer.

The initiative was a heartwarming success, combining fundraising with direct action to make a tangible difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Business teacher and Social Enterprise Group Co-Ordinator, Sarah Owen, described the day as “A great time all while giving something back to others”.
