Aspiring journalists and members of the Female Lead Society, Mikayla (Year 10) and Elena (Year 10), were given an incredible opportunity this week: interviewing stars from Disney and Pixar’s new film Hoppers in London.
On Friday 27th February, the students travelled to D’Arblay Street, London, for a special premiere of the new animation in preparation for their interview on Tuesday 3rd March. The premiere was an exciting experience, giving them the chance to watch the film early while also beginning to think about the creative and insightful questions they would ask the cast.
Before interviewing Piper Curda (who voices Mabel) and Bobby Moynihan (who voices King George), Mikayla and Elena spent time in the holding room enjoying themed Hoppers games. This helped them relax and warm up before the big moment. Soon after, they were called by the publicist and given ten minutes with the actors to conduct their interview. Afterward, they captured a special photo with the stars, a memory they will undoubtedly treasure for years to come.
Reflecting on the experience, Mikayla shared: “I had so much fun interviewing Piper and Bobby. It’s shown me that I have good journalism skills and that it’s a career path I’ll really enjoy!”
Elena also spoke enthusiastically about the opportunity: “I most enjoyed meeting the cast and finding out that they are so fun and nice! The skills I’ve learnt are reacting quickly to interview answers and thinking about what they say. This will really help me in the future. Journalism is a path I want to go down, so it’s been really helpful.”
The experience gave both students a valuable insight into the world of entertainment journalism this careers week and in the lead up to International Women’s Day.
