Leighton Park becomes a Steinberg Certified Training Centre

We are pleased to confirm our new status as a Steinberg Certified Training Centre. Steinberg is a renowned worldwide music software company, used throughout the music industry. Becoming a certified centre brings substantial benefits for our students, giving them access to industry-standard applications and market-leading training. As well as supporting our talented musicians in their performance, recording and production, this partnership presents really exciting opportunities to our composers.

Although they are a substantial global company in their own right, Steinberg are also part of the wider Yamaha umbrella. Leighton Park is a Flagship Yamaha Music Education Partner, the only school in Europe to hold this level of partnership. As well as ensuring our students have access to the best technology and instruments, this partnership gives our students opportunities to train with leading, Yamaha-sponsored, professional musicians.

Director of Music, Rosemary Scales, commented: “We are really excited by this new partnership with Steinberg, which will complement and strengthen our links even further with Yamaha. Our students are really looking forward to learning new software to support their creativity in a wide range of genres, working with Steinberg’s professionals and having the opportunity to be well prepared for the next step into the music industry should they choose to follow this route. Lots of exciting plans ahead!”

While the quality of music education is being eroded at many schools in the UK, we have positively gone in quite the opposite direction. With over 50% of students studying an instrument at the School, and with 27 music teachers on staff, the music department is one of the busiest and most vibrant parts of the School.

Our Michael Malnick Centre for Music and Media opened in March 2019 with state of the art facilities – including a Yamaha Live Lounge recording studio. Students love the new facilities and their performance in the recent competitions, including finalists in the SoundCloud national Song Academy songwriting competition and winning the Barbershop category at the ISA A Cappella Awards, shows the immediate impact the facilities have had in helping students to develop their talents.

Performance is woven into the fabric of life at Leighton Park, with regular concerts, musicals and community projects to enjoy and an inclusive Music for All philosophy encouraging a strong sense of community and personal growth. The School’s excellence in Music is complemented by strength and depth across the creative subjects, from drama and dance through to art and design. This year, Leighton Park has won both a boys’ and girls’ national ISA Drama Award and was runner up in the most recent ISA Dance Awards.

Creativity is at the heart of the School’s curriculum, supporting the wider aim of being a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) centre of excellence.
