This week, Leighton Park students have embraced our Quaker values of service and community through two wonderful charity-driven activities.
Year 9 and 10 students have been supporting the Connect Reading charity by making and hand-writing gift tags for their annual Giving Tree campaign. This initiative links Christmas gifts to those in need, who may otherwise not receive a Christmas present with over 1,000 gifts distributed each year. Helen Bligh from Connect Reading shared, ‘We are incredibly grateful for the support of Leighton Park students and look forward to decorating the Christmas tree in the Oracle with their beautifully written tags.’ Connect Reading’s Giving Tree will launch at 6pm on Monday 18th November and all are welcome – get tickets here.
Meanwhile, our Year 7 Rotary Club members have been raising funds for Children in Need by selling Pudsey Bear merchandise at lunchtime. Pat Holloway (Interact Rotary Clube Leader) commented ‘It important for the students to think about people less well than themselves. Even though Interact Club takes place in School, it gives the students their first step to further things outside of school.’ Their efforts are helping to support children in need across the UK, in the lead up to Children in Need Day on Friday, November 15th.
