LP Football and Hockey Tour, Holland
On Friday 18th October The Leighton Park Football and Hockey tour landed in Arnhem, Holland, for a weekend of fixtures, thrills, coaching and camaraderie.
After a long day travelling through four different countries, the students were presented with their new inspiresport training kit, before retiring for a good rest ahead of an action-packed day.
Saturday saw a storming win by England, against Australia in the Rugby World Cup quarter final, more thrills, twists and turns at Efteling Theme Park and another defeat by Director of Sport, Jez Belas, with a top score of 150 points in bowling.
Geared up for their first day of training and an evening fixture, the football and hockey action started on Sunday. The girls, who were up and out in the fog, just managed to see the ball!
Boasting some fantastic facilities, Upward Hockey Club provided a beneficial coaching session. The LP Hockey Team then put their learnt skills into practice against Upward HC; it was a close first match and everyone was extremely proud of each player’s performance.
The boys also had a busy morning with football training under their belts, ready for the match against Vitesse Arnhem in the evening. Some excellent competitive football was played and the team represented the School admirably.
Training continued with Vitesse Arnham the next morning, along with some tired legs after the previous day’s matches. Nevertheless, all players had a chance to loosen up before a second football fixture in Renswoude and hockey match in Sint-Oedenrode.
Ending their fantastic tour on a high, Leighton Park’s sportsmen and women made their way over to GelreDome Stadium, to tour one of the largest and most modern stadiums in the Netherlands, home to Vitesse Arnhem since 1998.
