The School community was treated to two musical events this week; the Large Ensembles Concert on the evening of Wednesday 10th October, followed by Thursday’s lunchtime Piano Recitals in the MMC Upper Foyer.
The Large Ensembles featured four pieces either side of the interval with the Orchestra and Senior Choir delivering stand out pieces, including the popular ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Dear Evan Hansen’. The LP winds, LP Strings and LP Brass groups completed with evening with a rewind performance from the Tuscany tour that took place in the Summer holidays.
In the Foyer the piano concert showcased seven pianists with a repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary. The audience were keen to find a moment of musical peace during the busy school day and enjoyed the opportunity to hear such accomplished playing.
Music is a real strength of the school with over half of our students learning an instrument and 27 peripatetic music teachers offering lessons in instruments as popular as the violin and piano to the more unusual such as the accordion, euphonium and the harp. Throughout Year 7 access to music is provided by the CAS programme with lessons in strings, brass and woodwind instruments for all, inspiring students to continue independently in later year groups. We are a Yamaha Music Education Partner, a Sontronics Education Partner and a Steinberg Certified Training Centre ensuring access to industry standard equipment and approaches for our keen musicians.
