Meeting Quakers in Quaker Week

On Wednesday 1st October, during Quaker Week, our Year 7s took a walk down to the Reading Meeting House to learn more about Quakerism. This trip runs annually to allow our students to physically engage more with Quaker values as both a group and individuals.

Our students this year played some Quaker-themed games, with the help of board game designer and Quaker, Jessica Metheringham. This encouraged them to embody the value of community to solve problems and be creative. One game that particularly stood out was the creation of a group poem, by individually choosing cards that had one word on them and then come together in groups to form some sentences.

Head of Philosophy, Religious Studies and Values, Stephen Taynton, remarked: “The trip allows Year 7s to focus on what is a major part of their curriculum. It’s important as it allows students to meet practising Quakers, ask them questions, and enjoy some activities, therefore strengthening the link between the local Meeting House and the school. There was certainly a buzz going on as the students walked back!”
