Message in a Bottle at The Mayflower Theatre
On Thursday 11th May, the Dance Department were fortunate to see Kate Prince’s dance storytelling powerhouse, ZooNation, perform Message in a Bottle at The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.
“The dance draws inspiration from the music of Sting and takes the audience on an exhilarating journey exploring the theme of immigration.” commented Dance Teacher, Beth Butler.
Kate Prince is a triple-Olivier Award nominee, who delivers Message in a Bottle’s uplifting story of hope and humanity through the medium of dance, high energy footwork and athleticism.
Beth continued, “The musicality of the company was phenomenal, the way the dancers used the phrasing and intonation was mesmerising to watch. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Their storytelling was incredibly moving supported by an interesting use of set and lighting.”
Els in Year 7 enthused, “I really liked the fact that it told a story. It was great hanging out with my friends and the dance style was really interesting. The big bit for me was the incredible lifts! They were really cool.”
Oscar echoed, “The trip was so fun – the dance was so entertaining and engaging – it was nice to see a hip-hop dance to the music of Sting!” Gracie said, “It was one of my favourite dance shows I’ve seen; I loved the story and the music, and it definitely gave me inspiration for choreography.”
