The Music Department and their instrumental supporters were out in force on Sunday 23rd March for the Green Park Reading Half Marathon! A regular running event since 1983 the race brings thousands of athletes past the gates of the School as they charge up the Shinfield Road. Our musicians were keen to encourage the runners, belting out motivational tunes and providing a series of funky rhythms to run to as the race sped past.
The Music team have also organised two lunchtime concerts this week; Thursday 20th was dedicated to piano performances whilst Friday offered a more eclectic mix starring soloists and ensembles on a variety of instruments. Both concerts delivered a range of musical genres from classical to contemporary with an appreciate audience enjoying the opportunity for some midday entertainment in the MMC Upper Foyer.
Music is a real strength of Leighton Park School with the staff team being Outstanding Music Department Finalists in the Music & Drama Education Awards 2025. Over 60% of students learn at least one instrument from our 27 peripatetic music teachers and there are a plethora of co-curricular musical activities available for musicians at every level.
