Music in Budapest!

Music students enjoyed a fabulous study trip to Budapest, Hungary; home to great composers such as Franz Liszt, Bela Bartok and Zoltan, whose works shaped 19th and 20th century music.

Wednesday 29th October

From beautiful blue skies to the excitement of arrival, we settled into our hotel and quickly immersed ourselves in the charm of Budapest. After a hearty lunch, everyone was energised and ready to explore the city!
The highlight of the day was a stunning evening river cruise along the Danube and seeing the Hungarian Parliament Building illuminated against the night sky. Students enjoyed the opportunity to socialise, take photos, and soak in the city’s magical atmosphere, all before savouring a local favourite: schnitzel with spaghetti!

Thursday 30th October

A singing review when visiting the opera house this morning! A beautiful set of art and sound at our guided tour of the Hungarian State Opera House. Such and eloquent and historical walk through the architecture and experiencing the acoustics of the magnificent spaces.

In the afternoon, we crossed over to the Buda Castle District, where we explored Matthias Church and the Museum of Music History. Wandering through these historic sites offered a wonderful blend of culture, art, and inspiration. After a day full of exploration and discovery, the students enjoyed a delicious dinner featuring roast duck followed by a traditional Hungarian sponge and cream pudding.

Friday 31st October

Our final day in Hungary began with a visit to the House of Hungarian Music, where students learned about the evolution of local folk melodies and had the chance to explore an incredible collection of historical instruments. The interactive Sound Dimensions exhibition offered a hands-on experience with music and soundscapes, encouraging students to experiment with sound design and creativity in the modern studio environment.

The day continued with a fascinating guided tour of the Franz Liszt Memorial Museum, allowing students to step back in time and imagine the great composer at work on his masterpieces. It was a truly inspiring conclusion to our study trip.
