On Wednesday 6th November, our first concert of the new half-term showcased the immense talent and dedication of our soloists at Leighton Park. The evening featured a diverse range of instruments, including voice, piano, cello, saxophone, tuba, French horn, guitar, drum kit, bassoon, bass guitar and even xylophone, each performance impressing our audience.
The programme celebrated musical diversity, with pieces spanning genres and eras—from timeless classics by Beethoven and Tchaikovsky to popular hits by The Beatles and beloved musical numbers from Billy Elliot and Grease. Our students’ passion for music shone brightly and they delighted in sharing what they love with an appreciative audience.

Not only did we celebrate our soloists on the stage this week but two students have also successfully completed the English School Orchestra Orchestral Course over Long Leave. Oscar (Lower Sixth, percussion) and Leonie (Year 11, violin) embarked on the exhilarating and rewarding five-day course in London, where they had the opportunity to work closely with accomplished professional tutors and experienced mentors, engaging in a dynamic mix of sectional, full and individual rehearsals. To conclude their fabulous experience, they performed at Cadogan Hall in London, performing Wagner’s Overture to ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’, Edward Gregson’s Tuba Concerto, and Bruckner’s Symphony No.7.
Amongst our multiple musical triumphs, we are also proud to announce that our fantastic Music Department has been shortlisted for the Outstanding School Music Department Award 2025 run by the esteemed Music & Drama Education Awards. We eagerly await the results on Thursday 30th January 2025!
