Leighton Park offers a ‘Music for All’ approach in its curriculum and School life, encouraging students to use Music as a wellbeing tool as well as to enhance their music skills. The School is also thrilled to be able to share individual Music success such as Alice (Year 11), who has recently gained a place in the National Youth Orchestra as a bassoonist.
The beginning of September entailed a two-step audition process for Alice in London, alongside workshops to ease the nerves of auditionee’s. With the incredibly high standard of the National Youth Orchestra, Alice was understandably nervous to audition, however her talents, hard work and determination saw her gain a well deserved place.
When asking Alice about her achievement, she stated: “I think a big part of why I was able to even go for NYO was because of the school. They have helped me improve my musical skills as well as allowing me to get involved with as much music as possible, which gave me a huge advantage. I am excited for the coming year where I will play at the proms as well as at many other amazing concerts. I will also be able to help at ‘NYO Inspire’ which is a great alternative to NYO!”
Alice’s mother also expressed her pride. “I am incredibly proud of her, not least for showing such resilience – she was adamant she wanted to go for it again this year and really worked hard for it. She has some exciting times ahead!”
We look forward to hearing more about Alice’s new adventure with the National Youth Orchestra!
