John and Mike, volunteers with Reading Family Aid, collected the large number of gifts donated by the Leighton Park community for the Toys and Teens annual appeal on Monday 9th December.
“We find it very sad how many children there are in Reading, a surprising number of children, that would not otherwise get Christmas presents. This is our contribution to helping them along.” commented Mike on his involvement with the charity.
“There are so many needy children, families in the area, that want and need and welcome this help, otherwise their Christmas is going to be very bleak.” added John. John is keen for LP families to understand that the best thing they can do is to “be aware of these collection days and please give generously.”
Amicus, our Sixth Form charity, have worked hard to raise awareness of the initiative in which the School have been participating for five years. They launched the campaign with a Collect delivered by Laura, Reading Family Aid’s representative, explaining the importance of giving to others during the festive season. The students have distributed posters around the school and set up a station in Old School for presents to be dropped off. We were pleased to see so many kind donations this year, strengthening the Quaker values of equality and respect as part of our values-based education.
