Scholars Trip: Inspiring Change

On Monday, 24th February, our Academic Scholars embarked on an enriching and thought-provoking trip, centred around the theme of Changemaking. The day was designed to inspire our students to explore the role of social justice, history, and leadership in shaping the world we live in.

The first stop on the itinerary was the historic Windsor Castle, where students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in British royal history. Exploring the grandeur of the castle, they learned about its significance in the context of British leadership and its enduring role in society. The visit sparked discussions on tradition, change, and the responsibilities of those in power—perfectly setting the tone for the day.

From there, the students travelled to the Centre for Social Justice, where they delved into the core issues surrounding social justice and changemaking. The Centre, which works tirelessly to address societal challenges, provided a unique learning experience. Students participated in discussions and activities that encouraged them to think critically about their role in society and how they, too, can become agents of positive change. Lunch was provided at the Centre, offering a chance for students to reflect on the morning’s experiences and share their thoughts with one another.

The group then made their way to the Imperial War Rooms, an iconic site that provided a glimpse into the past through the eyes of history’s changemakers. The visit offered a deeper understanding of resilience, decision-making, and the power of leadership in times of crisis. It was an important reminder of the sacrifices made by those who shaped history.

By the end of the trip, students were not only filled with knowledge but were also inspired by the powerful stories of leadership, justice, and courage they had encountered. The day was both educational and inspiring, encouraging our Academic Scholars to think critically about how they can contribute to their community and the world. Deputy Head Academic, Alex Wallace, summarised “Our scholars give huge amounts to the departments that they are scholars in & are heavily involved in events that the school runs, so this was an opportunity to give something back to them but also its really important that they’re developing themselves. I hope they gained a lot from the trip and it will inspire them to go on an achieve what we ultimately want our students here to do and that’s to be changemakers of the future!”
