Small Ensembles Concert Inspiring For All

Each year the Small Ensembles Concert offers students an exceptional opportunity to showcase their musical talents, whether they are beginners or more experienced musicians. The concert encourages all students to join an ensemble and become part of the School’s vibrant musical community, with no barriers to entry. The Small Ensembles Concert, held on Wednesday 13th November, gave students a great chance to practise various musical pieces, form bonds as a group, and interact with peers from all parts of the School.

The concert proved to be a favourite with inspired students in the audience branding the concert as ‘interesting’ to their learning, ‘weirdly wonderful’ and ‘creative’. The programme featured covers of many well-known popular artists such as Nirvana, Lewis Capaldi and Radiohead alongside a unique string quartet rendition of “Monster Mash” and an original composition by Laura (Upper Sixth).

Director of Music and Media, Rosemary Scales, praised the performances: “What a fantastic array of talent and creativity on display in tonight’s Small Ensembles Concert. Wow! From string quartets to live Music Technology and everything in between! Such a range of music, all brilliantly performed.”

We also had the pleasure of enjoy another lunchtime contribution to the ‘Spotlight Series’. The series allows students to build their stage presence, confidence and practice to a live audience, as well as enabling staff and students to relax, enjoy and take a breather during this lunch time period with various pieces on offer. This week brought us piano renditions of pop music, vocal duets and guitar performances.

Whilst students are showcasing their passion for music. Leighton Park’s staff are gearing up for an extravagant music showcase in our very own version of ‘The Masked Singer’. The event, taking place on Thursday 28th November, is part of our Schoolwide ‘Sound for Soul’ Music and Wellbeing initiative. Anonymous staff members will be dressed in mascot-like costumes, ready to sing their hearts out in the hope to get their endorphins flowing and their brains guessing!
