Our Music Department were out in force on Wednesday 18th June, garnering their energy for the upcoming International Music Day on Friday with some musical refreshment at the Soloists’ Concert.
The talents of our young musicians were showcased in Main Hall with the opportunity to perform extending to all year groups. There were a range of pieces from Abba to Bach, from Ed Sheeren to Sibelius, and a wide range of instruments including violin, piano, cello, voice, guitar, saxophone and timpani. It is the last evening concert in the series of frequent performances across the year which have provided opportunities for small and large ensembles, scholars, soloists, jazz, movies and musicals, creative communications, and of course, Christmas festivities!
Lars (Year 9) who played ‘Bourrée d”Auvergne, No 1 from Suite française, Op. 114’ by Bazelaire on the cello commented, “I thought that the concert was a very interesting experience. It’s definitely not my first one but it continues to be a time where you continue to think it’s going to be very hard and that you’re going to cry, but when you’re done with it, you’re usually very proud of yourself, even if you have messed up in the concert, because the thing is that nobody else knows that except you!”
Refreshments were kindly provided by the Friends of Leighton Park Music, a group of parents and OL parents, keen to support the activities of, and fundraising for the Music Department.
