Congratulations to Garegin and Lexi for being the first Leighton Park Students to be awarded prestigious CREST Silver awards from the British Science Association.
CREST is a scheme that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. These student-led projects, supported by Club STEAM, were on topics far beyond the curriculum. Garegin chose to research ‘The Efficiency of Space Rockets’ and was told “You came up with an innovative idea of what to research and how to best understand the way in which the rockets worked” by his assessor. Lexi followed her interests in Marine Biology with her project on ‘Lessons from Coleoid Cephalopods’ and received feedback from the assessor that “this was a fascinating and well carried out research project”.
Club STEAM is an after-school activity open to all students. Its aim is to help students take ideas or passions and make them fly, either through individual or team projects. Mark Budge, one of our STEAM teachers explains, “Lexi and Garegin have been wonderful STEAM Ambassadors as they have shown what you can achieve with incredible initiative and drive. It is great to have validation of their success from the British Science Association.”
