Main Hall was packed on Wednesday 2nd April as the highly anticipated annual Movies and Musicals Concert took centre stage. Showcasing the incredible talents of our student musicians, the evening delighted a packed audience with a vibrant programme of 25 musical numbers.
From well-loved classics to hidden gems, the concert offered something for everyone. Highlights included a powerful orchestral opening with Batman, an energetic rendition of Another Day of Sun from La La Land, a heartfelt solo of Somewhere That’s Green from Little Shop of Horrors, and a crowd-pleasing Monsters, Inc. theme performed by the Senior Jazz Ensemble. The evening celebrated musical talent across all year groups, with students impressing on a wide variety of instruments.
We were also treated to not one, but two beautiful lunchtime piano concerts in the MMC foyer. These performances provided our talented pianists with a wonderful opportunity to share their skill and passion in an intimate setting. For staff and students alike, the concerts offered a welcome moment of calm and enjoyment amid the busyness of the school day.
Music continues to be a cornerstone of life at Leighton Park, with more than half of our students learning at least one instrument. Our team of 27 visiting music teachers offer specialist lessons in everything from accordion and euphonium to piano and violin. Furthermore, those who do not play an instrument have also felt the mental wellbeing of Music through the School with our Sound for Soul initiative being carried out in Music lessons and PSHE classes.
We’re also proud to collaborate with industry leaders such as Yamaha, Sontronics, and Steinberg, strengthening the opportunities we offer to our young musicians.
