Leighton Park takes immense pride in running an Interact Rotary Club through the co-curricular programme, one of over 90 hobbies on offer. Interact Rotary Club empowers students to help their School and community with projects that promote international understanding and undertakes fundraising for good causes. Rooted in fundamental Quaker Values, the club advocates building values of integrity, respect, truth, and sustainability, as well as inspiring a strong commitment to community action and service and fostering character development.
On Thursday 30th November, the club orchestrated a delectable doughnut sale as part of their Interact Rotary projects that will help to aid the local community. Featuring Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the sale was an immense success, quickly selling out within the twenty-minute break time! The chosen charity was Daisy’s Dream, a local Berkshire charity that supports children through bereavement or family illness with personalised one-to-one support, telephone advice, and group support. The remarkable outcome of £137 was collected from on the day with sale prices of £2.00 on the day and pay in advance fees of £1.00.
The event was not only a sweet indulgence but a heartfelt contribution to a wonderful cause. The money raised will help Daisy’s Dream give consistent levels of support through mileage costs to be able to reach the children in their homes to create safe spaces for therapeutic support sessions as well as the literature and tools needed to aid. The students of the Rotary Interact Club hope to plan more events to raise funds for Daisy’s Dream and other community charities.
