The annual House Quiz made it’s anticipated return on the evening of Thursday 26th February! Each House’s team consisted of a Fryer, Year 9, Year 10 or 11, and Sixth Form student. The quiz was once again headed by Alex Wallace, Deputy Head (Academic) and had Sally Saunders, Head of Pupil Personal Development, as the scorekeeper.
They had five rounds for their battle of the brains, with 75 points on offer in each one! There was a lot of pressure on Fox House to hold their winning streak since the first quiz in 2023, with our other three houses eager to claim their first win in this competition.
Even after the classic mix up between Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens, Fox House emerged victorious for the fourth consecutive year! This left Lauren Brandwood, Fox’s House Clerk, in an ecstatic mood: “It’s a fun event because you have all the different categories, so you have people from different interests and backgrounds. It brings everyone together but puts them on the edge of their seats! After winning four years in a row that’s some massive pressure because we’ve created a legacy now. So I’m very grateful for today but very nervous for next year, hopefully we can make it to five years in a row!”
Alex reflected on being quiz master once again: “I thought it was fantastic, every year it gets better and better and the standard gets higher too! Having the buzzers created by our brilliant students made a big difference, it certainly allowed me and Sally to enjoy it more and have a little bit more control. As always, it’s a great atmosphere in here, the music round is always such a big hit too. For the fourth year running Fox House have done it again, so well done to them!”
Ryan (Lower Sixth), who represented Bentsi-Enchill, had to say: “House Quiz is a fantastic experience for me. Having that extra challenge and something that celebrates the idea of gaining knowledge. Especially in science, music, and the history of our own school. I was amazed by the spread of knowledge we had as a team, overall demonstrating strong team work and we did come second place. We haven’t beat Fox yet but perhaps that’s something we’ll be looking for next year!”
