Year 8 Activities Week

Year 8 packed their suitcases with clothes and courage for this year’s Activities Week from Monday 26th to Thursday 29th June, as they headed to Haverfordwest on the Pembrokeshire Coastline for four days of incredible adventures!

After arriving safely, the group got to grips with their facilities and location, learning where they were going to be washing up their plates and cutlery every day! Vegan chilli was delivered and devoured by all on the first night and a walk around the coastline blew away the cobwebs.

On their first full day, Year 8 split into their five activity groups to begin their three-day outdoor adventure carousel of surfing, coastal walking, climbing and coasteering.

A visit to Dr Benyon’s Bug Farm continued the excitement as students petted the insects, overcame fears, and those brave enough, tried a morsel or two at the bug restaurant. Everyone then sang Happy Birthday to Raphael and shared some locally sourced cakes which encouraged the centre’s self-adopted pigeon ‘Quentin’ to join them.

Ending the week on a high, Year 8 regrouped for a hill walk in which they decided where the journey would take them. They even encountered some friendly ponies!

Head of Geography, Oliver Staines, commented “It was lovely to see them stepping up to the leadership challenge and listening to each other (eventually!) in order to come to a consensus that we were all happy with! The guides did help out with a few well-placed suggestions for safety!”
