Students from all year groups gathered in our Maths building for the annual House Chess tournament on Monday 17th November!
The tournament lasted an hour, with everyone using tactics, strategy and skill whilst competing. A student from each year group represented their house, playing 3 matches each.
Aryan, (Upper Sixth) enthused: “The Tournament is a really good way we can let the younger and older years all come together through our love for chess. It’s a great game that we all enjoy but also shows we can plan for the future and critically think as well. And those are really good skills to build in from Year 7 all the way to Upper Sixth.”
Our students love to practice playing in Chess Club, a popular part of our co-curricular according to Tom Cartmill, the Tournament coordinator: “A lot of people want to be in Chess Club and we’ve maxed out at 25 members this year. So we at least have House Chess once a year where everyone can play and represent their house. The tournament is also a really nice opportunity for everyone to play against somebody they don’t usually, there’s a real buzz in the room this year!”
