A Capital Day Out for the Sixth Form!

Lower Sixth students were excited to venture to London on Thursday 26th June for the first day of their Activities Duo. The trip to the capital offered them the chance to visit three of the city’s most popular and impressive museums: the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), all handily located in South Kensington.

Claire Gulliver, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, explained, “Students and staff saw a range of exhibitions including ‘Design & Disability’ theatre and photography at the V&A; insects, butterflies and the cocoon as well as human evolution and visiting the earthquake room and the dinosaurs in the Natural History Museum; and mammals, modern medicine including early MRI machines, brains and phobias at the Science Museum.”

Amy (Lower Sixth) enjoyed the visit, enthusing, “It was so insightful to experience looking at such beautiful artefacts with important history. The most memorable and my favourite part of the trip was the Natural History Museum, especially the volcano section, where I was able to get a deeper understanding of my curriculum topics. I also liked how interactive everything was as it made it exciting and interesting at the same time. “

Sarah Owen, Sixth Form Tutor and Business teacher, commented, “The Lower Sixth had a wonderful day; there was something for everyone at the three museums. Amongst many other things, the students enjoyed the earthquake simulator in the Natural History Museum, dressing up in the theatre section at the V&A and the interactive exhibits in the ‘Who Am I?’ exhibition in the Science Museum.”

Helen Taylor, Head of Sixth Form, concluded that the trip is a highlight of the year, reflecting, “Students have an opportunity to follow links to their current subjects but also gain some cultural enrichment.”
