Our first A Level Dance trip took place on Thursday 18th January to see ‘Giselle’ by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. This is a prescribed work on the A Level speciation and English National Ballet did not disappoint with the beauty of their classical lines, the stunning set transporting the audience to a small village in the Rhineland and the lake in the depths of a forest . Dance teacher and trip leader, Beth Butler, was delighted by the experience, saying, “It was a very successful trip where students were able to really appreciate the nature of a two act ballet and the clever way in which this genre takes us on a narrative journey.”
A Level Dance student, Charlotte (Lower Sixth) enthused: “I really enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity of getting to see ‘Giselle’ in London. It was an amazing piece of dance. I particularly liked how there was a narrative throughout the dance and the props and set design were really beautiful and there was incredible attention to detail on them. I think trips for A Level Dance are really important as I find it really inspires me as a dancer. I learn new movement material which I can use for my own choreography. Dance at Leighton Park is brilliant, I am so glad I chose it as one of my A Level subjects, [my teacher] Beth really supports me in and out of the classroom making sure I understand everything and do the very best I can! I feel like I can express myself and how I am feeling through my dance moves.”
