The most popular concert of the year, our Musicals and Movies themed spectacular, took place in Main Hall on Wednesday 3rd May to the appreciate of a packed crowd. The marathon extravaganza is a chance for students to showcase their talents in popular tunes, well known to the audience through West End shows and cinematic scores.
It is a popular event every year and our musicians flock to sign up for a slot in the line up but this year was a bumper show with a musical marathon that saw additional performance spaces appear in the MMC Upper Foyer for a pre-concert welcome and an interval cabaret.
The large group pieces by Senior Choir, the Orchestra and Fryer Voices were impressive and the soloists, ranging across voice, piano, guitar, saxophone and drums, provided a variety of show stopping entertainment. It is a wonderful chance for our smaller ensembles to perform together and our jazz groups, string ensemble and bassoon quartet together with a few duets gave the audience an excellent experience of musical magic! The shows selected included ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘The Greatest Showman’, ‘Encanto’, ‘Come From Away’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and more, plus a medley from ‘West Side Story’, looking forward to our bi-ennial musical show next year!
