A Promising Season Opener for Girls’ Hockey

Thursday 16th November brought great excitement and some nerves to Leighton Park’s U15 Girls’ Hockey Teams, who were ready for a thrilling day of fixtures at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) national Hockey competition.

The ISA Sport is one of the largest sporting programmes for independent schools in the UK and it allows Leighton Park students to represent their school in many sporting areas, challenging themselves regularly. These extra-curricular activities increase self-esteem and build teamwork skills amongst students, as well as fostering personal growth, teamwork, and a commitment to achievement.

Embarking on a two-hour drive to the Olympic hockey pitch at Lee Valley, Stratford, heightened the anticipation among our students as they prepared for four games in their pool. A strong 2-0 win against Reddam House at the end of the four games, secured Leighton Park’s third place in the group and their qualification for the Bowl competition.

With high stakes but pure determination and skill from the Leighton Park students, Bronze medals were secured with a strong finish as the team beat Kingsley School to 3rd place. In the Bowl competition.

Overall, eleventh place out of twenty was a great place to start the season and the Hockey team is already back in practice to perfect their skill and techniques.
