A Rising Taekwondo Star: Inspiration and Determination

Lower Sixth student, Tèa, inspired excellence through achievement at her latest Taekwondo competition. Her most recent triumph at the UK Open Taekwondo Championship, winning Gold in the sparring category, is a testament to her commitment and passion for the sport.

Tèa’s journey to success is marked by her dedicated training scheme, training twice a week with an extra session every three weeks with the England squad. Tèa also invests in extra training before upcoming competitions.  When asked about her emotional state before competing, Tèa revealed “I am calm and ready before the competition, however before I go on the mat, I feel extremely nervous, especially with everyone watching”.

Tèa’s ambitions reach beyond her current achievements, with exceptional goals in sight, she spoke of how her future goal is to “represent England at the World Championships and also achieve my fourth Dan black belt”.

Tèa’s journey to Gold was not only a personal triumph, but a source of extreme pride for her mother, Loriene. Describing the experience of watching Tèa spar, Loriene shared: “It’s nerve-racking to watch sparring but exciting at the same time as it is a very technical sport. Tèa is very strong as she isn’t scared and never backs down! We were so proud of Tèa’s accomplishment of winning Gold, especially as she has only been in the UK for a year. All of her hard work and dedication has paid off and we are very grateful for all the support from Leighton Park, as well as always acknowledging her achievements”. Tèa emphasised the crucial role played by her teachers and staff at Leighton Park, enthusing that “the teachers one hundred percent support me when it comes to my Taekwondo”.

Although she feels accomplished, her hard work doesn’t stop there as Tèa starts to prepare for her next goal in sight, selection for the England Squad Team – taking place on Sunday 3rd  December. We wish her the best of luck and hope her remarkable achievement continues to inspire other students to be proud of their work and determination.  Her journey captures the simple essence of our mission statement at LP, inspiring achievement with values, character, and community like no other school can.
